TSW LCI Study Areas Receive Transportation Funding
TSW has been involved in over 20 Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) studies and implementation projects through the Atlanta Regional Commission’s (ARC) program. LCI is a program that encourages the development of vibrant, walkable, and livable communities that offer residents access to quality jobs, affordable housing, and transportation options. Recently, ARC awarded a total of $34 million to 13 governments to build innovative transportation projects that emerged from LCI studies.
TSW’s LCI study areas were among the recipients of the ARC funding. One of the areas is the Ponce de Leon Avenue Pedestrian Facilities and Beltline Connections in Atlanta, which received $4 million. The project aims to improve the pedestrian facilities along Ponce de Leon Avenue and enhance the connections to the Atlanta Beltline. The Beltline is a former railway corridor that is being redeveloped into a multi-use trail that connects Atlanta’s neighborhoods.
Decatur also received $2.1 million for the Clairemont-Commerce-Church Bike and Pedestrian Improvements project, while Doraville received $2.3 million for the New Peachtree Bike and Pedestrian Improvements project. These projects aim to enhance bike and pedestrian infrastructure in these areas and provide residents with safe and accessible transportation options.
In addition, Monroe was awarded $1.6 million for the North Broad Street Bike and Pedestrian Improvements project. This project aims to improve bike and pedestrian facilities along North Broad Street and provide safe connectivity to the downtown area.
Finally, Midtown Atlanta was awarded $3.4 million for the Juniper Street Bike and Pedestrian Facilities project, which TSW’s Landscape Architecture Studio will be leading the design for. This project aims to improve bike and pedestrian facilities along Juniper Street and provide safer and more accessible connections to the Atlanta Beltline.
Overall, these projects reflect TSW’s commitment to creating livable, walkable, and sustainable communities through their involvement in the LCI program. The ARC’s funding will help these projects move forward and provide residents with improved transportation options that support their quality of life.
