EAST ATLANTA VILLAGE |
Atlanta, Georgia | |
East Atlanta Village is a diverse community that includes many different residents, restaurants, bars, and specialty retailers. At the heart of the Village, small-scale businesses are located along Flat Shoals Avenue from Glenwood Avenue to Moreland Avenue. The commercial area has experienced a revitalization as many new residents have moved into the surrounding neighborhoods.
To enhance the community and improve the pedestrian environment, TSW was retained to develop a streetscape plan that creates a new vision for the Village. During the development process, TSW held workshops with the neighborhood residents and business owners to gather input and feedback. The final plan includes on-street parking, street trees, pedestrian lighting, improved pedestrian crossings, large sidewalks, gateway features, and intersection realignments. The streetscape plan reflects the diversity of the adjacent neighborhoods and enhances the environment of the area, further enlivening the revitalization of the community. The on-street parking, street trees and pedestrian lighting will help to calm traffic and reduce visual clutter, making the area more walkable and visually appealing. The large sidewalks, gateway features, and intersection realignments will improve the pedestrian experience and make the area safer and more accessible for all.
