City of Perry: Jaycees Park

Description:

TSW worked with the City of Perry to create a vehicular roundabout directly adjacent to a new city park, which is currently in progress. The new roundabout aims to control local traffic growth and congestion at the current intersection with minimal negative residential impacts. The roundabout was designed to slow travel speeds near the future park, while still moving vehicular traffic through the intersection at a continuous flow. This will allow people to travel safely and efficiently to the park, to adjacent neighborhoods, to the adjacent cemetery, and to the main arterial road.

The park was designed as a memorial park, honoring both veterans and Perry citizens through engraved polished granite memorial walls and a tranquil reflective fountain. The park is intended to be a peaceful and contemplative space for visitors to reflect and remember those who have served their country and their community. The park also includes a shaded plaza and seating area, created by preserving and rehabilitating a remnant of the old granite retaining wall near the future renovated gas station on site.

The park’s design includes a variety of features that will encourage visitors to spend time in the park and enjoy the natural surroundings. The park will include walking paths, picnic areas, playgrounds, and other amenities that will make it a destination for people of all ages. The park will be landscaped with a variety of native plants and trees that will provide shade and create a natural environment that will be enjoyable throughout the year.
