Piedmont Park’s Greystone wins Atlanta Urban Design Commission Award
The Atlanta Urban Design Commission (AUDC) recognizes efforts in preserving Atlanta’s history every year. In 2021, Greystone, Piedmont Park’s bathhouse and pool, received an AUDC Development of Excellence Award. The bathhouse and pool, originally built in 1911 and 1973, respectively, underwent renovation as part of the Piedmont Park Master Plan.
The bathhouse and pool area now feature lap lanes with recreational features, beach entry with current channel for floating, concessions, pool level locker room and showers, lifeguard station, ADA accessibility, and multiuse facilities with space for programs, exhibits, and events. TSW was responsible for the schematic landscape design and construction documents for the pool area and surrounding grounds.
The renovation of the bathhouse and pool area was one of the remaining renovation projects of the Piedmont Park Master Plan. The project is seeking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification. Piedmont Park has been recognized as one of the top 10 urban parks in the United States, providing Atlanta residents with a wide range of recreational activities, including sports, concerts, and festivals.
Established in 1975, the AUDC is responsible for overseeing the city’s historic buildings, sites, and districts. The organization recognizes efforts that help preserve the city’s history through its Development of Excellence Award. The AUDC awards are highly competitive, and receiving one is a significant achievement for any project in the city. The award ceremony was held on June 30, 2021, and Greystone was among the winners of this year’s awards.
