City of Woodstock Receives PEDS Golden Shoe Award
he City of Woodstock has been recognized with a Golden Shoe Award from PEDS for its efforts in creating a pedestrian-friendly suburban retrofit. The award acknowledges the city’s successful redesign of downtown streets, making them more accommodating for pedestrians.
TSW, a design firm that has been working with the City of Woodstock since 2003, has played a significant role in this achievement. The firm was involved in developing the city’s Downtown Master Plan and Form-Based Code, which helped guide the transformation of the downtown area into a more pedestrian-friendly environment. Additionally, TSW provided master planning, architecture, and landscape architecture for the Woodstock Downtown mixed-use development and designed and completed construction documents for several blocks of Main Street.
TSW’s approach to the city’s revitalization involved creating a more walkable, bike-friendly, and livable environment. This included improving the connectivity of pedestrian and bike paths, incorporating green spaces, and designing streets to accommodate all modes of transportation. The firm also collaborated with local businesses and residents to ensure that their needs were incorporated into the planning process.
With TSW’s guidance, the City of Woodstock has successfully created a more vibrant and inclusive downtown area, fostering a sense of community and encouraging active transportation. TSW’s commitment to sustainable and livable design has helped the City of Woodstock receive recognition for its efforts, proving that pedestrian-friendly retrofitting is possible in suburban areas.
